Be Takerng Pattanopas 2012

Gap the Mind

GAP the Mind is an installation by Be Takerng Pattanopas in collaboration with Preeda Intha and Robert Treborikki Pomegranates, commsissioned for i Light Marina Bay 2012, the light-art festival in Singapore. Comprising a long row of 20 fabric shelters, illuminated from within by different levels of pulsating lights, triggered by various tunes resonating Aum-chanting-like sounds. The installation aims to re-introduce Asian vernacular rituality into the language of light installation. All these 20 glowing fabric shelters are modified from the readymade brown Glods (Buddhist monks portable umbrella shelters used while on their spiritual journeys in forests). On each metal base installed a set of low-energy LED lights, which is programmed to emit different levels of light that correspond with sounds recorded from sounds resonated from Batrs (Buddhist monk’s brass food bowls). Both light and sound of this installation will be triggered when viewers move within designated areas by infrared sensors that respond to body heat.
